Because of the natural color of the baby camel fiber, which is a very lovely tan, and the high silk content, which adds sheen, this yarn is one of my absolute favorites to dye. You might imagine that already having color on the yarn might pose a problem, but in fact it adds an incredible underlayer to the dye pigment, providing depth and complexity.

I do think that my recent cougar encounter is still contributing subconscious inspiration, as my mind was filled with nostalgic imaginations of African safaris, tawny lions and tigers roaming the savannah, zebra hides gracing the insides of tents, and old Tarzan movies starring Johnny Weissmuller!

The gold in these skeins is just fabulous, heightened for the earlier mentioned reasons, and because of the general neutrality of shades, these would pair really beautifully with other jewel tones. Check your stash for garnet, amethyst, ruby, sapphire, and emerald yarns and mix away!

And if you're looking to pair up other Beloved Yarn colorways, at the time of this writing we still have three available that would be stunning:

Leaving Safe Places; a silky, drapey fingering weight yarn with similar shading, adding green to the other golds and browns.

We're Wired For The Hunt; a pure silk blood red fingering weight that would add stunning contrast, and really enhance the safari theme.

Consumed By Fire; a lace weight yarn with softer coral tones that could be doubled to work well, or used in a pattern as lace contrasted with fingering weight stockinette.

Ask if you'd like recommendations for patterns or pairings, I love making them!
