Whilst on a private Big Island knitting retreat for the Solstice holidays, my companions and I went for a day adventure to Volcanos National Park. One of our walks was to the Pu'u Pua'i overlook on Devastation Trail, which 50 years after the fact could be renamed Restoration Trail, as the prolific Hawaiian flora and fauna have quickly rejuvenated the area. However, there are still stark, barren areas that are more reminiscent of a harsh desert than a tropical rain forest. Still, there is life, but not in the shades of green we've come to expect in these islands. Rich browns, golds, and tawny fawns are everywhere, and I love how the silky cashmere in this yarn picks up the highlights in a way that accurately depict the sun-washed glory of that place.
