As soon as Rachy (of Rachy Newin Designs) told me about this collective endeavor by the fantastic UK indie dyer Countess Ablaze, I knew we were in.

For the most part I choose to ignore politics and refrain from discussing said subject. Yet I care passionately about the state of existence we share with all other beings and our earth. My personal spiritual practice is rooted in transcending patriarchy on all levels for everyone and everything, freeing ourselves from sexual stereotyping including the base one of being labeled male or female, and nurturing all life first and foremost by respecting the land we live on, and all the other living creatures we share it with. But sometimes there's fun to be had, and for me, this is just such a case.

Back in March 2018, Countess Ablaze was offered a misogynistic proposal, which essentially asked her to provide yarn and teaching for "exposure" rather than pay. You can read all about it here. She brilliantly turned the situation on it's head by offering up two specially themed colorways, and ended up raising over £3000 for Women's Aid, a UK charity that helps women to escape domestic violence. Recently, another situation regarding one of the aforementioned colorways emerged, and her response is to throw open the doors for indie dyers, designers, and makers to copy the theme and colors and following her lead, donate a share of the proceeds to a charity of their choice. You can see why we're in, right?

The first thing you need to know is that $5 from every skein of this yarn sold will be donated to The Nature Conservancy, my charity of choice. Before we can free the wild in ourselves, we have to preserve and protect what's left of the wild in the world. And then get out there and breathe the wild air, dance on the tops of hills, and run through the woods.

Second, instead of dyeing a set number of skeins I'm offering these as dyed-to-order, meaning you may pre-order as many skeins as you wish from July 1st, collaborative launch day, through July 7th. Yarn will ship near the end of July, and as the Countess has requested, everyone participating will send in their numbers so that she and her crew will report on the total amount donated to charities by all of us knitters, crocheters, weavers, and makers. Not a bad way to overthrow the negative powers that be, eh?

If you have any questions or comments, write to me at daien@belovedyarn.com. As a side note, I was recently surprised when I lost a potential customer because I named a colorway A Girl Has No President, which I thought was a brilliant play on so many levels, and no, I didn't come up with the phrase. Whoever did is brilliant! Heave ho, we all have to pick a side, and I clearly know which one I'm on.

Wait, you say? What's the yarn going to look like? Well, see the Countesses' yarn in the photo? Just like covering a song, I'll start with those colors and put my own creative spin on them. I already have an idea there will be some black joining in the fun, and if you really don't like your yarn when it arrives, you can offer it up for sale or trade on Ravelry

Don't forget to share this with your friends, and check #titsoutcollective and #ifiwantexposureillgetmytitsout on Instagram to see everyone else who's participating.
